Women's Hours

£0.00

Women's Hours looks at how women are told they who they should be throughout their lives and summoning the ancient triple goddess trope of the maiden, mother and crone.

As POW is celebrating 10 years of protest and celebration, looking to the past, present, and future, Rebecca went looking into what traditional and established ideas we have about women and how out of date these ideas may be.

Each image features symbols, objects and words gleaned from chatgpt and what that program comes back with when asked to explain the three stages of a woman's life. These are then mixed together with what open AI produces when asked to provide information of statistics of life for women at various life stages.

Upstairs is a collection of all the pieces she has made for International Women's Day over the last 8 years.

Rebecca Strickson

Inspired by the traditional imagery of trade union banners and protest placards, Rebecca Strickson’s work explores the power of community and collaboration. Using eye-popping, psychedelic palettes, bold and busy compositions, and fragments of typography, Strickson’s aesthetic harks back to the 1960s, the golden age of civil unrest and positive change.

Since graduating from Goldsmiths in 2002 and now based in Margate since 2019, Strickson has worked with a number of high-profile clients including Royal Mail, BBC, Channel 4, English Heritage, National Trust, Barbican Centre and Southbank Centre.

As well as illustration, Strickson creates large scale installations, embroidered banners and wall hangings. She facilitates and teaches workshops around the country, makes fun things happen at festivals and can always be relied on to be banging on about something.

You can buy her work at Little Swift between 4th March - 28th April or on her website
